What is Gate ?

          The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an All-India Examination conducted by the six Indian Institutes of Technology and Indian Institute of Science,Bangolore, on behalf of the National Co-ordinating Board-GATE, Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development(MHRD), Government of India. Admission of Postgraduate courses, with MHRD scholarship/assistantship, in engineering/Technology/Architecture/pharmacy at colleges/Institutes will be open only to those who qualify in GATE. The objectives of GATE is to identify meritorious and motivated candidates for admission to postgraduate programs in Engineering at the National level. Every year one IIT or IISc is selected as the Organizing Institute.




GATE exam is conducted through eight zones which the  administrative institutes are given below:

      Zone-1: Indian Institute of Science Bangalore
      Zone-2: Indian Institute of Technology Bombay
      Zone-3: Indian Institute of Technology Delhi
      Zone-4: Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati
      Zone-5: Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur
      Zone-6: Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur
      Zone-7: Indian Institute of Technology Madras
      Zone-8: Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee


The overall coordination and responsibility of conducting GATE 2011 lies with Indian Institute of Technology Madras, designated as the Organising Institute for GATE 2011 .So,for GATE 2012 ,the organising institution may be head over to another zone,and it will be announced shortly.
